An exciting first trailer for the sinister twist on Cinderella, The Ugly Stepsister, has just dropped – and it looks shockingly good.
Described as “Cinderella meets Cronenberg”, the trailer doesn’t shy away from the gory, body surgery horror as young Elvia (Lea Myren) attempts to meet certain beauty standards – in the most barbaric of ways!
According to the official synopsis:
A sinister twist on the classic Cinderella story, The Ugly Stepsister follows Elvira as she prepares to earn the prince’s affection at any cost. In a kingdom where beauty is a brutal business, Elvira will compete with the beautiful and enchanting Agnes (Thea Sofie Loch Næss) to become the belle of the ball.

I’m personally loving the return of body/beauty horror to the silver screen; first we had The Substance (my favourite film of last year) and now this. Hooray for feminist body horror at its finest! I have high hopes for this one.
And with its release coming on 18th April, The Ugly Stepsister has just gone to the top of my ‘to-watch’ list!
