The Kickstarter for Frostpunk: The Roleplaying Game has hit target. It’s shattered the campaign goal like a sheet of ice falling off the roof. So, unless there’s a dramatic failure from this experienced publisher, we’re getting a Frostpunk TTRPG.
Interestingly, the URL for the project ends in -0, meaning someone’s already had a bash at launching a “Frostpunk: The Roleplaying Game” Kickstarter. This current one runs until April 19th.
Catalyst Game Labs (the folks behind BattleTech and Shadowrun) has teamed up with 11 bit studios to bring the world of Frostpunk to the tabletop!
The Kickstarter is for Frostpunk: The Roleplaying Game, a society-building game that puts players in the tough position of making critical decisions to ensure their community’s survival in a frozen world. If you’re a fan of the Frostpunk video game, you’ll recognize the core themes of tough choices and the balance between morality and survival.
Here’s what the Kickstarter is funding:
- Core Rulebook: This book will contain everything you need to play the Frostpunk RPG.
- Frostland Explorer’s Guide: A sourcebook providing additional setting details, scenarios, and other resources for players and game masters.
- Collector’s Editions: For those who want something extra special, there will be limited collector’s editions of both the core rulebook and the sourcebook.
Frostpunk: The Roleplaying Game uses Catalyst’s new Dice Core system. It’s designed to be accessible for players who want to focus on story but also offers some tactical depth. The system uses three dice for tests: one for the action’s complexity, one for the character’s skill, and one for a linked attribute.
The cold is unrelenting. It’s been ten years since the end of the world. Cities depend on massive generators that provide heat, and machinery that excavates resources and grows food. Humans scramble to survive, relying on the pillars of Faith and Order to build societies that can keep residents alive despite the odds. You have skills to contribute to the city—but can you make the difficult choices needed for survival?

Backers at $15 will get a PDF copy of Frostpunk: The Roleplaying Game as a thank-you gift. At $25, backers get Frostpunk: The Roleplaying Game and the Frostland Explorer’s Guide.
The hardcover of Frostpunk: The Roleplaying Game unlocks at $50, and backers get the PDF and one of two metal pins. At $70, a GM screen is added in.
Catalyst are highlighting the $110 Frostpunk: The Roleplaying Game tier, which offers both books in both formats, a pin and the GM screen.
There are higher tiers, though, such as the $160, which is the first of the limited editions and a challenge coin.
There’s also the $230 which gets limited editions of both books.
Catalyst Game Labs estimates the game will ship in April next year.
