Lionsgate has officially confirmed that John Wick isn’t dead, and Keanu Reeves will be returning for John Wick: Chapter 5 – that’s right, it’s actually happening!
Director Chad Stahelski and producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee are also onboard, which means the original team are ready to rock! And apparently there’s a good story to tell, too.
John Wick: Chapter 5 was announced during Lionsgate’s big CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, where talk of the Wick-verse dominated – there’s also an animated project, and a spinoff Caine movie in the works that’s going to be directed by Donnie Yen.
But back to John Wick: Chapter 5. Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake has hinted there’s going to be something special in store:
Keanu, Chad, Basil, and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world. We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.
Producers Iwanyk and Lee chimed in with: “It’s so important to get this story right and give John’s story the proper next step. It’s exciting to take the first step on that road.”
I guess it’s not a huge surprise that John Wick hasn’t carked it yet, but I’ve got to admit, I was ready to put this franchise to bed at the end of the last film. Doesn’t sound like that’s going to be happening any time soon!
