Fans of Traveller RPG at Virtual Traveller and sci-fi publisher CyborgPrime Games are working together to run the virtual Mayday 2025 celebration of the game.
Mongoose Publishing is the official custodian of the game and has been expertly supporting the Traveller RPG for years. They supported the fan-driven event and shared a notice for Mayday 2025 on their social media.

The problem? The graphic is AI-created, which is a hot topic item. There are numerous people who see AIs as a threat to the livelihood of creators and those annoyed that big tech is getting bigger by training their LLM on other people’s ideas.
Whereas I saw the backlash on X.com (which is now owned by an AI company), I saw the apology on BlueSky.

In summary, Mongoose stressed that Mayday 2025 is a fan idea that they wanted to support but acknowledged they should not have shared the AI since they do not use AI art of text themselves. As a result, they apologised and deleted their shares of the image.
