A one-night-only variety show and auction in Indianapolis will raise funds for RAINN and GenderNexus, featuring comedy, drag, music, and a host of industry support.

The tabletop gaming community is flexing its collective muscle for a good cause with “Power Word Resist,” a charity variety show and silent auction scheduled for July 30th at the Indianapolis Repertory Theater. The event aims to raise vital funds for RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, and GenderNexus, a local Indiana nonprofit supporting the gender-diverse community.
The one-night-only event, strategically placed just before the city hosts a major gaming convention, boasts an impressive lineup. Comedian Ify Nwadiwe of Dropout.tv fame will headline, joined by drag artist Juicy Garland. Musical performances from Sonora, Mr. Clit and the Pink Cigarettes, and Moon Goons will round out the evening’s entertainment.
More than just a show, Power Word Resist is a statement of solidarity. The event features a silent auction loaded with over $1,750 worth of gaming goodies. Support has flooded in from across the industry, with donations from notable publishers like Cephalofair, Free League Publishing, Modiphius, and Renegade Game Studio. The list of backers also highlights the incredible diversity of the tabletop scene, including indie darlings Rowan, Rook & Deckard, artisans like Dragon’s Den Candles and ReRoll Woodworks, and creative forces such as Bad Squiddo Games, Wehrlegig Games, and Gehenna Gaming.
The event is the brainchild of a new movement, also called Power Word Resist, founded by Sara Lang (Blank Bodies), Erik Norris (City of Glass Games, Gehenna Gaming), and Calleigh Fisher (City of Glass Games). Their goal is to organize charity events that protect and empower vulnerable community members.
Sara Lang, one of the event organizers, notes,
This show and auction strive to uplift our community as an act of joyful resistance. We chose these causes to support people both on the local and national level who are being targeted by the current administration.”
That sentiment is echoed by the event’s sponsors. Ian E. Muller, CEO of Gehenna Gaming, told press,
We’re always ready to support critical causes in our community like these, and happy to work with and alongside such great groups to do so this year. Charities like RAINN and GenderNexus serve a critical role in both the tabletop community and on local and national levels to help protect, educate, and empower some of our most vulnerable.”
RAINN provides critical support services, including the National Sexual Assault Hotline, while GenderNexus works to create a welcoming and safe Indiana for gender-diverse individuals.
Power Word Resist offers a chance for the community to come together for an evening of entertainment and “joyful resistance,” all in support of two profoundly important causes.
