Rex Matheson
The big name is Mekhi Phifer (ER, 8 Mile, Dawn of the Dead). He plays Rex Matheson the expert C.I.A. agent. This is the fellow who could have had a life in Wall Street or Hollywood but dived into the C.I.A. because he wanted to fight crime.
Captain Jack Harkness
John Barrowman (Doctor Who, original Torchwood) returns as Captain Jack Harkness. He once ran Torchwood, a British organisation set up to fight the strange, but just as Torchwood closed down he vanished.
Gwen Cooper
The “funny, salty, earthy woman” (so says her official bio!) Gwen Cooper also makes a return, played by Eve Myles (original Torchwood, Merlin), forced to return from a life of seclusion with her baby and devoted husband in order to help save the world. Again.
Esther Drummond
Alexa Havins (Desert Fox, When in Rome, Cold Case) plays Esther Drummond a desk-bound and rather naïve C.I.A. employee who pines after a life as an active agent. You should be careful what you wish for Esther.
Oswald Danes
Sentenced to death for the murder of a child, Oswald Danes is unrepentant. Amazingly, Danes survives his own execution and becomes the most infamous man in the whole world. Played by Bill Pullman (Space Balls, Independence Day) Oswald Danes personifies the impact of the “Miracle Day”.
Doctor Vera Juarez
Lastly, Doctor Vera Juarez played by Arlene Tur (TV Host, Crash), is fast talking surgeon on the front line of medical care and quickly recruited by the government think-tanks as “Miracle Day” impacts.
What about “Miracle Day”? Miracle Day is a day when no one dies. No one anywhere on Earth. People get sick, get hurt and need help but they don’t die. People continue to age. No one dies the next day nor the day after. All good, right? Not given the population boom and finite resources. Scientists calculate there may be enough food left in the world to last the next few months…
