This video is frightfully impressive. This is all the work of a hobbyist and V-Sido software, which, if you want, you can get here.
As you watch this video think about the robot’s balance. It simply isn’t falling over despite leaning quite some distances in some of the Kinect-powered poses. It’s impressive stuff.
This particular robot reminds me of an anime mech, perhaps something like a Gundam, and I doubt I’m the only person who noticed. The result? I predict that robots you can plug into your Xbox – models that you plug into your Xbox – can’t be that far away.
Hobbyists already splash the cash to buy static but accurate recreations of movie and anime characters. I’m sure they’ll pay more for one which animates in a professional way. I certainly think we might start seeing some limited edition computer games that come with such models. I think it’ll be ace to sit there, playing a mech shooter, while a robot beside the TV joins in the fun by responding to either your voice or body posture.
What do you think? Are my predictions way out there or do you agree?
