It looks like we’ll be lucky enough to get more Red Dwarf!
When Dave commissioned the three-part Back to Earth TV special back in 2009 they had no budget but lots of fans. Turns out that the three episodes did really well. It beat both BBC 2 and Channel 4 in viewing figures when it aired.
As Return to Earth did so well Dave wants to do some more. The new series will likely be 6 episodes long and, hopefully, filmed in front of a live audience.
The good news is that Craig Charles, Robert Llewellyn, Chris Barrie and Danny John-Jules will be back. Craig Charles (Lister) and Llewellyn (Kyten) have confirmed. Sadly, looks like we’ll miss out on Norman Lovett as AI Holly. I watched him live, in a small show, at the Edinburgh Fringe festival and you could tell he was fed up of being “that guy from Red Dwarf”.
Will there be a Rob Grant? That’s not sure. He left after season 6. Some people suggest that seasons 7, 8 and Back to Earth were sub-par for the series. I’ve faith in Doug Naylor but I’m sure I’m not the only one who fears the worst while hoping for the best.
