Dungeon Siege III will be out in May 2011. That’s reason to be cheerful! It’ll be available for the PC but also for the PS3 and Xbox 360. I suspect this bashed up laptop won’t be able to run it so it’ll be a console version for me.
There are some significant behind the scene changes here. The first two Dungeon Sieges came to us via Chris Taylor and his Gas Powered Games. This time round, Square Enix have moved the development license to Obsidian. Hopefully this is the best of all worlds as Taylor remains hands on as a consultant.
I liked Dungeon Siege 1 far more than Dungeon Siege 2. The first was a fun romp. The second got a little boggy for me. As I recall I died at the hands of inventory management.
Obsidian are promising an “evolated action-RPG experience”. They’re talking about an “all-new co-op multiplayer mode” (here’s hoping it’s like Portal 2 and lets us cross-platform). They’re also saying that Dungeon siege 3 will blend intuitive action gameplay with a good RPG system. The game will be set in an immersive world where your decisions have consequences. After all, these are the guys who’ve just given us Fallout: New Vegas.
I expect we’ll see lots more teasers. Here’s the latest trailer: Loyalty.
What do you think? Are Obsidian a good choice for Dungeon Siege or do you dislike the sandbox RPGs they often tend to produce?
What’s more – do you agree with me? Was Dungeon Siege I more fun than Dungeon Siege II?>
