Darkspore is nearly the sequel to Spore. It’s a little different. For a start, EA are referring to it as a “Sci-Fi Action RPG”. Maxis Studio are still involved.
In Darkspore the story starts with the player being woken up by Helix, a female AI, after eons of cryogenic sleep. The player is one of the last members of an ancient race called the Crogenitor. Once the Crogenitor travelled the galaxy, altering the DNA of life forms, and creating new powers and abilities. Sound like Spore?
In Darkspore the player controls the Generic Heroes, a race of super warriors created by the Crogenitors, to battle against the monsters created by the Darkspore.
Darkspore is a game that you can play by yourself but my feeling is that they’ve thought long about the multi-player experience too. The fact that there are different types/races of Heroes; Necro, Cyber, Bio, Plasma and Quantum, each with strengths and weaknesses remind me of the classic “adventure party” set up. In fact, there are even different “classes” too; Ravager, Sentinels and Tempests.
