Mini-spoiler alert. I suppose if you’re super sensitive to spoilers then you’d consider this post one. We’re here today, class, to feature the song from the end of Portal 2. The spoiler? It’s from the end of the game. The end!
Actually, heck, let’s feature a whole load of songs and make the song at the end of Portal 2 the highlight.
“Want you Gone” is written by Jonathan Coulton who wrote “Still Alive” that amazed us at the end of Portal 1. It’s sung by Ellen McLain too. McLain, an opera singer, is used often by Valve and her voice stars in Portal (as GLaDOS, of course), Team Fortress 2 (the announcer) and Half-Life 2 (Combine overwatch).
As a reminder; here’s Still Alive from Portal 1.
I’ll admit that, currently, Still Alive is my favourite. It’s only a minute longer than Want You Gone but feels much more epic.
Just over a year ago, Geek Native featured GLaDOS versus Children that featured a kids choir doing their version of Still Alive.
If you’re not a fan of kid singing then skip this and go straight to Code Monkey below.
Jonathan Coulton needs to be more famous. He’s opened for They Might Be Giants, I know, which is pretty famous. Have you heard Code Monkey? This Coulton song has been played so often at work it’s now pretty much banned. Worth a listen!
This isn’t the official video, of course, it’s a mashup that made the final at the Anime Expo 2007 AMV contest and features footage from the anime Black Heaven.
