You can find this blogger on the gamer social network and technology site Raptr. I don’t visit the web interface very much. Instead I’d use it to keep track of what I’ve been playing and what my friends have been playing so I could make informed choices about which game to buy next.
The well funded network (to the tune of some $27m) has just rolled out a change that might well lure me to the actual site and take a stronger role in the community. They’ve added a Digg like news system.
First off, the Raptr news system takes advance of the fact that it knows a little about you – it knows about the games and the types of games you like – and the default newsfeed takes that into consideration when it makes recommendations to you. It also knows who your friends are and that further feeds the news algorithm. Futhermore, the Raptr news system is a bit like Digg and Reddit in that the community can vote stories up and down. Popular stories get more exposure. Cutely, the votes are called “Rawrs” – after all, Raptr is a dinosaur.
If you’ve found a cracking gaming story – like a blog post here on Geek Native – then you able to submit the link to the news system. I imagine gamers will get famous and become popular by building up a track record of finding good links.
