Do you remember the original American McGee’s Alice? It came out in 2000.
The game was set in a rather sinister Wonderland. You see; after Through the Looking-Glass Alice’s home burns down, killing her family and leaving her alone. Alice eventually looses her mind and winds up in Rutledge Asylum being treated by one Doctor Heironymous Wilson. Her ownly possession is a stuffed rabbit.
It takes ten years before Alice winds up in Wonderland again. It’s twisted and broken – like her mind. The two echo one another.
In this new game, Alice: Madness Returns, play picks up about 11 years later (which is about the real life time lapse too) and she has some repressed memories to deal with.
The artwork for this project always impresses me. Check out this splash page artwork for Spicy Horse (the company behind the original game) and their official Alice micro-site.
