I’ll say this for Runespell – I was about 1 minute and 30 seconds into watching this video when it occured to me I was actually just watching a card game. It speaks very well to the design of the game that its fun enough to watch for a while. I imagine gameplay will be great enhanced by this.
So, what exactly is Runespell Overture? It’s an RPG that combines gameplay elements of POwer and Yahtzee. Yup. Really. That’s then combined against with collectable cards.
The site is Runespell.com and the game will be coming out on Steam. The developers are a group known as Mystic Box, Mystic Box themselves were only funded in 2011 and this makes me think they were set up, with backing, to do this game.
In Runespell: Overture you play as The Changeling – the son of a monster god. Good start, huh?
The Poker/Yahtzee mechanics are used in the battle, there are more than 30 monster tyles and defending enemies allows you to make them pets or allies and new locations become available through questing.
