You might have encountered sites like Klout which attempt to measure how much influence you have on Twitter and other social media spaces. It’s a challenge; people are good at gaming the system. Step in Empire Avenue. It’s a stock market model that measures how influential people are but then allows players to buy and sell shares in one an other on top of that. In other words, it makes a game out of social influence.
For example, you can buy shares in Geek Native’s Twitter account for less than 18 Eaves right now. I’ve not claimed the feed. This blogger has plugged in plenty of his social networks so buying shares in me is more expensive. I’ve more influence than Geek Native on Twitter. Empire is free to play but hardcore players can splash cash for vanity items and some extra eaves – although not enough to upset game balance.
The BioWare founders Drs Ray Muzkya and Greg Zeschuk are part of a larger group who’ve placed $1.2m in Empire Avenue. That’s a cracking amoutn of money – but Empire Avenue, unlike so many other social networks and measurement systems, is much easier to montise.
