Drew Struzan may not be a household name but if you don’t know who he is, you certainly do know his work. A quick flick through Drew Struzan: Oeuvre is enough to see just how important his work has been over the past three decades, but you will want to give this collection more than just a quick flick.
Between these shiny covers you will find over 250 pieces of his work. Mostly they are his movie posters, from Star Wars and ET through The Shawshank Redemption and Police Academy and on to Hellboy and The Walking Dead. Other commercial works are collected here to, artwork for memorabilia and those tasteful collectable plates that you see advertised in magazines available for purchase by mail order. The collection is rounded out with a selection of the artist’s personal works which do a wonderful job of showing how versatile an artist he is.
The book maintains the usual high quality of Titan’s high-end books. Every picture is beautifully reproduced and the detail of Drew’s work shines from the page. Personal favourites include the huge collection of Indiana Jones pieces with their gorgeous desert sunset hues and just one piece from a Batteries Not Included poster.
If the purpose of a coffee table art book is give visitors something to look at and talk about then really, what could be better? Before long your guests will be oo-ing and ah-ing at the pictures and discussing their favourite films.
