The BIMAs are UK awards that celebrate digital and interactive work. They really mean advertising but geeks will be pleased to know there’s a games section.
So, what are the candidates for the best British games of the year? With the advertising and marketing filter on the BIMAs should suggest;
- Doctor Who: The Adventure Games ‘Shadows of the Vashta Nerada’
- Heineken Star Player
- Million Pound Drop Play-along game
- Nike Grid
- The End
This geek, who works in digital marketing, has only heard of the the Doctor Who game. This may be a bias; but I suggest it’s the front runner!
This 14 minute view is the full walkthrough. It’s worth a watch just for the opening scene!
The BIMAs have a host of judges; including plenty from the BBC. Here’s a sample of the big names: Aileen Walker, Director of Public Information at Parliament, Andy Conroy, General Manager of BBC Online, Ben Lunt, from Leo Burnett, Dan Oliver, editor-in-chief of .net magazine, the journalist David Jenkinson, Helen Nowicka of Porter Novelli, James Cashmore of Google, Jude Stone of Parlophone Records, Louise Brown, Head of Multi-Platform Commissioning for Channel 4, Shane O’Byrne from MEC, Tiffany St James and Tom Reding from BBC Worldwide.
The winner last year was a game called Privates by Zombie Cow. It beat off Home Sheep Home by Aardman Animations although Aardamn Digital did win the ‘Effectiveness’ prize for Home Sheep Home. The pic below shows the Aardamn team escaping with their prize.
