I’m not really a fan of driving games – mainly because I’m rubbish at them. I remember all to well when one Project Gotham game had to tell me it could not find anyone worse or of the same skill level on the servers to race with; it could only find people better than me.
I wonder if it’s people like me that the latest Need for Speed ad is aimed at. It wraps the game up in a cinematic with people and the plot. Okay; it’s really simple plot but it’s very different from showing me I can customise the cars or watch cheerleaders in short skirts before the race and that seems to have been the staple of race ads previously.
What do you think? Does the set up make the game any more tempting for you?
Perhaps it was time to do something different as The Run is actually the 18th title in the Need for Speed range. It uses DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine and is the first non-shooter ever to use it. It’s expected the game will have mini-events in it too; such as leaping out of the car and racing on foot for a bit. These mini-games aren’t supposed to be killers but will help fork the drama.
