Heroes of Ruin looks like it might be one to watch. I choose not to be alarmed by the fact that’s a game for the 3DS; after all, I can turn the 3D off (well; I could if I had a 3DS). The strength of Heroes of Ruin on the Nintendo 3DS is in the online capabilities. This is a multiplayer and a social game.
For example, using StreetPass, players in Heroes of Ruin can work with “Traders Network” to buy and sell powerful and rare items. This will encourage players to get to know one another, help boost the multiplayer and therefore build the community. It’s community that makes games successful. Using SpotPass, players can be rewarded with extra rare items via local wi-fi hotspot deals.
The game is due out in early 2012 and is being put together by Square Enix’s team in London. Lee Singleton, General Manager, at the studios said in press release;
“With HEROES OF RUIN we wanted to take the game experience beyond the confines of the console’s two screens.
“Nintendo 3DS’ online and social features allow us to do so much more than multiplayer, using both StreetPass™ and SpotPass™ to give players innovative ways of enhancing their experience.”
A few months ago Square Enix released a set of four screenshots to spot the game. I’ve tracked them down and included them below.
