As we gear up for Tera’s arrival in Europe we’re getting our hands, and eyes, on more teasers from the visually stunning and combat focused MMORPG. In this post we’ll quickly check out “The Mighty Three”.
These are creatures that all of Tera’s combatants will need to know a lot about. For each of the mighty three; the teralith, kumas and ovoliths we have a teaser video, a mini background and an insider’s tip that reveals some of the design intentions behind the encounter.
Teralith
At one point the teraliths acted as protectors to the ancient relics of Tera. They hare imbued with magic and still guard places such as the Fountain of Shara and the remains of the giant empire in the Colossal Ruins. Soulcrusher protects the Bastion of Lok – the base from which the Scions of Lok strike.
Insider’s tip: Teralith
The designers wanted to show how magic could bring someone as dead as stone to live but wanted to avoid the golem sterotype. That’s why the Teralith blast magic from their chests. The Teraliths have no faces as the same designers wanted to emphasis the way they seem to be mindless constructs.
Kumas
The Kumas have changed plenty over the years. They are no longer docile creatures and are now aggressive beats that are attracted to sources of power.
Insider’s tip: Kumas
Players may well first encounter kumas in the Celestial Hills. The original Kumas had a lot of Asian styling in their design but this was changed to a more Wetern approach later one. The designers took on the challenge of emphasising the size of the kumas and paid special attention to the large footprints that they leave behind.
Ovoliths
The Ovoloths are the largest of the arachnens – the goddess’ Arachne’s loved but hideous children. They like to collect all sorts of items. Although they can be found in a range of locations they are known for their ability to survive in hostile regions like the peaks of Westonia or the deserts of Val Aureum. Ovoliths tend to work alone.
Insider’s tip: Ovoliths
The developer’s nickname for the Ovoliths are “Faberge death eggs”. Bluehole Studio wanted a monster that players would be curious about; tempted after a first encounter only to discover how dangerous they can be after the second.
