Are you a PC gamer or a console gamer? My choice of platform is strongly connected to the type of game. However, in one aspect PC games have the advantage – they’re far easier to take screen grabs from.
If you’re trying to review a game then your life is made much easier if you can quickly and easily take screen captures to illustrate your prose. Equally, if you’re trying to create a mashup for your forums then you need to be able to capture the action scenes you wanted to show off.
Screen captures for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have been possible in the past but, frankly, they’re a pain in the neck. I’ve never wanted to do it. It was much easier to simply work from the PC.
Here’s the good news. The Roxio Game Capture is designed to be a plugin and play solution. It comes at a price that’s affordable for most forum owner, guild leader or true fan and it is a must have investment for any would-be computer game reviewer. It also means you can continue to play your PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 ini HD via your TV set while using your PC to edit the game capture.
Roxio, the company behind the Game Capture software, do operate in Europe. Retailers like Amazon sell both the PC versions and the console versions.
Roxio’s software goes beyond taking screen grabs of gaming moments and it allows gamers and reviews to edit clips; including adding in voice-overs. It’s the sort of software that anyone wanting to run a money earning YouTube channel will need to invest in. I’m not sure pulling together all the different things Roxio can do is all that easy. The company holds over 5,000 technology patents.
I’m tempted by Game Capture myself. It was not all those Christmases ago that I was playing Brutal Legend on the Xbox 360, driving like a mad man and all I wanted to do was record some clips of the insanity and share via the blog.
