The world is a strange place and this is a true story.
Darth Vader – who introduced himself as “I am Darth Vader, the right hand of Emperor Palpatine” – presented himself at the offices of the mayor of Odessa to claim 1,000 square meters of land.
City authorities took the decision to give away plots of land along the sea coast – a prime real estate region – for free. Local media suspect corruption may have been involved in the decision. The major’s office says the move was a mistake but has not yet cancelled the ruling.
In the mean time, Darth Vader arrived and demanded land.
“…Knowing that many (local legislature) deputies and the mayor have switched to the dark side… I have come for a land plot… for my space cruiser.”
Did Vader get his land in Odessa? Well. Officials have accepted the application (okay, they wanted a passport check) but denied they are corrupt. A spokeswoman told Reuters.
“We are not on the dark side, we are light-side people,”
Still think I’m making this up? Here’s the video of it all happening – and I encourage you to study the bemused looks on the faces of the Ukrainian police. I don’t imagine this happens to them very often.
