This is gloomy news. Bandai Entertainment will make no more new anime or manga as of next month. This also means that Gosick, Nichijo and Turn a Gundam are cancelled from the anime range and Code Geass: Renya, Gurren Lagann v7, Lucky Star Boo Boo Kagaboo, Mobile Suit Gundam 001 and Tales of the Abyss: Jade’s Secret Memories v1 and 2 are cancelled from the manga range.
Bandai Entertainment isn’t closing though – it’ll continue to support it’s current products. Retailers can bulk buy from it.
Bandai Entertainment is owned by Namco Bandai Holdings (USA) and this change marks the start of some restructuring. The plan is to find third party IP licensing deals to take care of the new distribution, broadcasting and merchandising.
Thoughts and concerns turn to Beez Entertainment which is the European mirror in the current Namco structure.
