This is a sponsored video placement for the new Darksiders computer game. Darksiders followed the Horseman War. Darksiders II leaps to the most feared of the four Horsemen and follows Death himself.
Who do you think of when people talk about the four Horsemen? Death is the only rider named in Revelation but is “Death” just a shorthand for something else?
“When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come and see!” I looked and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.”
The paragraph is interesting because if “sword, famine and plague” refer to War, Famine and Plague then that suggests “Death” might just be “Death by Wild Beasts”.
But is there a Plague rider at all? Revelations talks about the horses – Death rides a pale/green horse, there’s a black horse (Famine) and a red horse (War) which leaves the white horse. Is the white horse Plague? Here’s what Revelations says;
I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come and see!” I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
So there’s some who suggest that the fourth rider is Conquest rather than Plague.
