Doug Rattmann, aka Ratman, is an interesting character from Portal mythos. He helped save Chell.
Rattmann was a scientist for Aperture and worked on the project – although it’s believed he never worked directly on GLADoS and, in fact, argued against trusting her. He is the one responsible for “The cake is a lie” warning.
He’s also more than slightly shy of fully sane and likes to carry around a Companion Cube that talks to him in ways that only he can hear.
Is he dead? Rattmann is wounded in the comic Lab Rat which, produced by Valve, is designed to help join Portal and Portal 2 together. The implication is that he’s dead but Valve seem to go out of their way to avoid confirming that.
