Ubisoft have managed to lure Michael Fassbender into the Assassin’s Creed movie. The news is that the Magento actor will also be co-producing the movie – and I wonder if that was part of the lure.
Jean-Julien Baronnet, Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO, said;
“Michael Fassbender was our first choice. Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”
It’s not clear what role Fassbender will be playing – but the common assumption is that he’ll be playing Desmond Miles and which ever assassin ancestor the movie picks up on.
Ubisoft are being both brave and wise with this film. They are finding the cash themselves – hence Ubisoft Motion Pictures rather than a more established partner. Sony Pictures had previously been in neogtiations. The French computer game giant is also using its own in-house special effect skills on the movie.
That makes a lot of sense to me. They clearly have the skill set, will learn a lot from the movie production and will likely keep the costs down.
