The news around the plucky Android based console start-up Ouya keeps on coming. First we had news of an OnLive partnership. Now there’s the discovery that Final Fantasy will be a launch title for the device.
Final Fantasy III, that is. This will be the first time gamers outside of Japan have had the chance to play FFIII through a console.
This is not an off-the-shelf version of Final Fantasy III, though, it’ll be updated to make the most of Ouya’s graphic capabilities. There will be a free demo. Some fans refer to FFIII as one of the “missing pieces” because it was not released in the US until a remastering was produced for the Nintendo DS in 2006.
FF III follows four orphans drawn to a crystal of light. Given power they are instructed to bring balance to the world. It used a turn-base combat system, using auto-targeting for the first time on physical attacks. The game uses jobs in lieu of a pure class system alongside experience points.
