The Grimoire
The Grimoire is the latest feature to arrive in the GameWyrd. It’s a chance to show off your writing talent and game mechanic ability. The Grimoire is a collection of spells; user contributed spells. Whether you’re writing spells or not you can always vote for the spells already in the Grimoire and even comment on them. It’s also possible to search the Grimoire in a number of ways. At the minute the Grimoire deals with d20 spells. Why? It’s easy. The OGL license makes this possible without needing to engage in legal foo with publishers. As the Grimoire grows we’ll look to dealing with this though and if there is demand we’ll try and bring in a wider range of systems.
Competition: To celebrate the opening of the Grimoire we’ve teamed up with Mystic Eye Game to give a way a copy of their Blight Magic book. The winner will be the person who submits the spell into the Grimoire that turns out to be Mystic Eye Game’s favourite addition. All the spells in the Grimoire’s d20 section are considered to be open gaming content, d20 publishers are able to put them into print and what more proof to do you need that real publishers visit the Grimoire than one of them being involved in judging the spells?
Music for Roleplaying
Music is a great asset for roleplaying. It’s great for setting a scene, building up tension or even for assigning something of a theme tune to a favourite PC or infamous NPC. Here at GameWyrd we have a user contributed list of roleplaying music. You can add your own suggestions to it or see what other people have suggested. Here are a few examples of the optional notes you can append to your music suggestions, we’ve Wyrdling BeefcakeTheMity to thank for these.
Album: Uppers And Downers
Single: Rumble(d)
Artist: The Yo-Yos
Theme / Scene: Bar-Room Brawl
Notes:
Two-and-a-half minutes of dirty bass and raucous guitars. Also check out “Trample On You” on the smae album for more of the same, or the wonderful “Too Lazy To Bleed” and “Half-Hour Heartache” for more tender moments.
Album: The Downward Spiral
Single: Hurt
Artist: Nine Inch Nails
Theme / Scene: World Of Darkness
Notes:
Gary Numan is pretty much blamed for the Cyberpunk asthetic. Fitting that his spiritual antescendant, Trent Reznor, be blamed for the Gothic Punk Asthetic. Who can argue that lyrics like: “I hurt myself today/ To see if I still feel./ I focus on the pain/ The only thing that’s real.” Were tailor-made for the angst bunnies of the world?
Interactive Stories
What’s this? You don’t think the Interactive Stories are new? Alright, they’re not very new but they weren’t here at the start of GameWyrd and so hundreds of wandering Wyrdlings might not know about them. That would be a shame. The interactive stories are blessed with some wonderful adventures. The stories might even get a super-duper enhancement in the future.
Here are few samples from the library.
- The Pegasi of Mesa (Fantasy)It was one of them, he felt certain of this. One of those six. It had to be. But which? They had parted company – what? 4 years back now? It hadn’t been pretty.Since his youthful start after leaving his mentor, Cedric – a ranger who made his home in the forest bordering the Dragonspine Mountain range – Jerrad had been mixed up with four groups of so-called ‘adventurers.’
His dreams occasionally still tormented him with pangs of guilt for being the sole survivor of the first band. All were killed, save him. Why her and not him? She was like treasure in the world, he was common dirt. Her life enriched so many, his was wasted, almost nothing more than marking the passage of time until his death. Even today he’d gladly surrender his life if Bethany could be alive again. He often thought of her. ‘Her beauty graced the world upon which she walked,’ he’d say to those who’d listen. Being with her had been the last time Jerrad was ever truly happy. She made him feel special, worthwhile; she gave his life meaning. Then it had no meaning, taken away like that, ripped from his soul, his love. He knew in his heart Bethany was the only one he would ever love. But she, and all the others, had been lost to the Drow. No recovery had been possible. [ more ]
- Four Ghosts (Anime)Liu belted down the busy college corridors as fast has he could, clutching his notebooks and class texts to his chest. Professor Yamagetao always made a big deal out of it if any of his students was even a few minutes late and this would be the third time in nearly as many weeks that Liu was going to be late.Only few metres from the classroom door, Liu screeches to a halt. Books tumble to the ground and he throws his arms out wide to try and stop from running straight into a rather pretty girl who had completely failed to notice.Nothing.No thump. No collision. No pretty girl either. [ more ]
- The World Now Broken (Sci-Fi)It was the same old shit every day. Guard the client, get paid. Nobody seemed to hire mercs for anything else. Hell, after five years in the business, the only thing I did other than escorts was guard a warehouse-and that isn’t in the least bit exciting. So once again, I was escorting some scared old merchant, who needed to get his goods from Boston to Buffalo.Sure, there wasn’t much left of either city. But there were still people, and they needed supplies. Plus, a hefty sum was offered for this job, so I leapt at the opportunity. Yeah, I know. After mankind is nearly wiped off the face of the earth, we still worry about money. Hell yeah we do. Money is still good. The government may no longer be around, but you can bet your ass that people will still accept money. It must be some kind of genetic trait left over from before the war. So, the newest greenbacks you’ll see anybody carrying around are dated 2009. That was the last year the US Mint was around to print anything. But we still take money, still use it widely…despite it being over fifty years old. [ more ]
