Doctor Who fans started to worry today when lead writer and Doctor Who supremo Steven Moffat deleted his Twitter account.
The concerns were manifold. Had the popular writer been harrassed off Twitter or was we preparing for some news that was going to be so bad, so upsetting to the Doctor Who Twitter community, that he didn’t want to be around?
Thankfully, his wife and fellow TV wizard, Sue Vertue tweeted some reassurance.
For all asking @stevenmoffat is well and currently having a family lunch but he’s got a huge amount on and twitter was proving a distraction

However, it’s not always that simple. Steven Moffat is famous and highly influentual among a very influentual community. It didn’t take very long for someone else to try and grab his account. I can’t recreate that now as twitter.com/steven_moffat resolves to the standard blank Twitter page but Sue took notice.
Obviously the new @stevenmoffat is an imposter and not The Moff. It’s just these sort of idiots that ruin Twitter for the majority of users

It’s worth noting that @stevenmoffat, without the underscore, is an old and fake Steven Moffat account. A little odd that Sue used that one in her “all is well” Twitter but, I imagine, she was just busy, distracted (by lunch, perhaps) and not used to tweeting Steven’s account.
Let’s hope that this is just a case of Twitter burnout and nothing more than that. It’s not unheard of for people to delete their Twitter account and then return to the platform. It’ll be a shame not to have The Moff within Twitter reach so let’s also hope he makes a return.
P.S. It’s rather nice to see his wife refer to him as The Moff.
