Mongoose Publishing have the license to the Judge Dredd RPG and the Judge Dredd Miniatures Game. The Judge Dredd Miniatures Game as been taking off, with a community buillding around it and additional model sets being produced.
Today, Matthew Sprange, the owner of Mongoose, turned to Kickstarter to attempt to crowdfund the Block War supplement for the game. It’ll be the first supplmement and, like the main rulebook, completely free to download.

This project is likely to succeed. Not only is Judge Dredd red hot right now but Sprange has set the bar very low for this Kickstarter campaign – looking for only $2,000.
In some senses this feels like one of the increasing number of products that would have happened anyway and that the publisher has turned to Kickstarter to soak up additional funds from the community. It’s exactly what I would do but we’ll have to see whether this “golden age” of game funding on the site can sustain itself.
If this Kickstarter starts to roll it in then look to the stretch goals. Just as Mongoose have designed a low cash in barrier it seems likely that the action around the minis, perhaps inspired by Reaper’s $1,000,000 Kickstarter, to build up the fan interest through rewarding stretch goals.
