GamrCred, the site that monitors and ranks your computer game prowess, is having to change names after another company thought the name was too close to “streetcred”. In an email to early adopters, the young site said;
“After hours of deliberation with $1,000/hr lawyers who actually said we had a good case against said company but, the reality is, we also know that these battles can be long, messy and require lots of money… Money and time that we could use to make GamrCred into the best and most credible community of gamers on the planet!”
Three alternative names are being considered; GamrFu, GamrMojo and GamrRank.
GamrCred span out of the site Empire Avenue which acts like a stock exchange for social media influence. Players on Empire Avenue can buy or sell shares in others and be rewarded by how well those others influence their online connections.
GamrCred was started to look at the recordable progress of gamers on their consoles and PC games. In some ways it is similar to Raptr but with less focus on the real-time discovery of fellow gamers and more emphasis on the status the connected gamers reach.
Joining GamrCred currently requires a beta access key. If you’d like one then leave a comment below with your email.
