Today, Kickstarter named a launch date for the UK and this can only be great news for gamers. This Geek Native blogger is aware of a handful of British based gaming companies that had been waiting for the crowdfunding power-house to hop over the pond before launching projects.
Chris Tregenza of 6d6 Fireball said;
“This is great news and we aim to take advantage of it in the next couple weeks. It will be interesting to check the small print to see if the charges and / or Terms & Conditions are any different for UK.”
Kickstarter comes to UK on Halloween; it launches on the 31st of October. I can only guess at how that will influence the initial publicity drives and projects.
The site is allowing projects to start the planning phase today and start building their campaigns now. These projects cannot launch until the 31st.
Projects launched in the UK will have a Pounds Sterling figure attached to them. Everyone else will see an approximate conversion rate to US dollars – no details yet from Kickstarter on the details of the exchange. We can hope the site goes light on the arbitrage.
Shipping changes
Kickstarers in the UK are used to reading the fine print of pledge levels. It’s common to see the project request additional funds for international shipping. It’s a sign of a rookie Kickstarter campaign when this is forgotten.
Starting today, Kickstarter have streamlined he process for international shipping for UK and US projects. The update, rolled out today, now makes it clearer when the project creator is asking for extra funding to pay for extra international costs.
