What anime RPG comes to mind? Big Eyes, Small Mouth from Guardians of Order? A superhero RPG? HeartQuest?
I think there’s room for more. There is OVA and in fairness it hadn’t hit my radar until their successful Kickstarter. Perhaps I’m not the only one in the same boat because as of the time of posting the OVA Kickstarter still has 40 days on the clock, 244 backers and has beaten the $7,500 goal already by raising $13,000 plus. I’m now wrestling with the urge to go in for a hardback.
There’s a style in the OVA pitch that I like. I like the promise;
If it’s not important to your character, you don’t write it down!
That tells me the roleplay and mood is more important than the crunch. That’s always been the case with anime.
It certainly helps that OVA has access to artists. Clay Gardener, the brains, is up for text and graphics credits so cleary knows his way around design and Niko Geyer as a wonderful, proper, anime style.
Here’s how I think this plays. If you’re an anime fan, like me, you’re wrestling over how much to pledge. If you’re not an anime fan then you stopped reading some time ago.
