Raise your total funding request on the day of your launch? Yes, Exalted 3 has just done that. Not at $20,000, $40,000 or even $50,000 asking price either? The Deluxe Exalted 3rd Ed stepped up to ask for a whopping $60,000 and has already sailed by.
The pitch has been up for a day. At the time of posting has rasied about $86,000 and has over 500. In the time it’s taken me to write these two tiny paragraphs there have been 25 new backers.
Exalted will fund.
Last night I was writing about OVA funding, an anime RPG I hadn’t heard of before, combine that with this heroic run at the RPG records by Exalted and it seems crystal clear there’s a strong demand.
Exalted isn’t just an “anime RPG”. It’s a fantasy RPG that explores further from the Tolkien path than most do. It’s a mix of Western and Eastern legends.
The video pitch addresses some of the issues in Exalted 2 as well. This is supposed to be a visual game. A game of cinematic storytelling. The challenge? Lots of dice get rolled. It’s the World of Darkness system of die pools and challenge ratings. Exalted 3 may not crack this but they’re going to try.
How is the Kickstarter even possible? White Wolf have licensed and allowed Onyx Path to do this. It means White Wolf enjoys royalities and Oynx Path gets a stab at building a successful series of games. The success rate on previous books to date has been good.
Slightly worried about the promise of new types of Exalted, though. How would/could that work? Other planets?
