The video above isn’t the Kickstarter pitch video for the project. There’s no such video. There’s an image header instead which you can see below.
The video was actually quite important though. It helped convince me that this wasn’t a fake Kickstarter project. There’s no mention of the pitch on Chaosium’s homepage so it was this video I first saw Paul Fricker’s friendly face and recognised this has a legit pitch. Also it was set up by Charlie Krank who’s run Chaosium’s other Kickstarter project.
Call of Cthulhu 7 has been in the works for a while. I know because I’ve a history of (minor) pestering Chaosium to get permission to interview Paul Fricker for Geek Native. Given that they’ve been working on this for a while and given that it’s going to be backwards compatible some might suggest there can’t be a lot more work to do on the project. They’re asking $40,000. Crazy? No, not at all. This may be the 7th edition of a book but this is Call of Cthulhu. The fans are insanely loyal and Chaosium would be mad to turn away from the money.
A few hours in and the project has 222 backers and about $19,000 in funds (at the time of writing). For $5 you get a thank you. For $15 yuo get a PDF of Call of Cthulhu Investigator Handbook. Most of the backers are currently sitting at the $30 mark (Terrible Tcho-Tcho) were they’ll get PDFs of both the Call of Cthulhu Keeper’s Rulebook and the Investigator Handbook. The highest tier, for which there are already two backers, is $350 and earns you Mike Mason and Paul Fricker hosting a brand new Call of Cthulhu scenario for you.
