Graphic.ly looks like it’s about to explode with potential. Right now (ie today; 4th of Jan, 2010) if you rush over and sign up for the beta using the code ‘TECHCRUNCH’ you might get jumped to the top of the waiting list for beta access.
First off; Graphic.ly simply looks awesome.
Secondly; it’ll run on iPhone or Android and like my beloved Seesmic Desktop it has an Abode Air application too. I hear rumours they’re even working on a web version.
Thirdly; oh, yeah… it’s a comic site. A comic community.
The company has already raised $1 million in funding. Some of that comes from Starz Media. These are the anime people (once known as IDT Entertainment). They distributed the Hellboy animated series and Robotech.
Oh, did I mention that Starz Media own Manga Entertainment Inc.
Yep. These guys are backing Graphic.ly.
So while we’ve all rushed to join the waiting line to see whether Graphic.ly will live up to its potential we can debate what *exactly* it’ll offer. Could this be a virtual comic store? Perhaps something similar to the latest offering from Sony? If so then the ability to purchase and download manga or comic content straight onto my iPod Touch (or Android when I pick one) is mouth watering!
Since founder Kevin Mann is based in the North East of England we can be fairly sure Graphic.ly won’t be too geo-tarded with its offering either. In the meantime I’m going to go stalk @graphicly on Twitter and see what I pick up!
