If you had a few weeks to enjoy on a cruise how would you like the holiday spiced up?
Research from Virgin Cruises discovered that both men and woman could be persuaded to enjoy a fantasy themed holiday on board a cruise ship. The survey discovered that the most popular themed cruise idea for men was Pirates of the Caribbean while women preferred an Arabian Nights theme. The least popular, for both genders, was – not surprisingly – a zombie themed cruise.
Another expected result from the survey was that The Titanic was the least popular famous ship participants would enjoy taking a cruise on – although men where nearly four times more likely than women to support the idea. If avoiding the Titanic seems like common sense an equally ill-fated ship rated most popular choice. The Marie Celeste was most popular among both men and women; pushing The Black Pearl for men and The Mayflower for women into second place.
Pet theory? Maybe these recipients weren’t too hot on their nautical ghost stories.
They survey did ask some tricky questions. It was asked of participants whether they would help out when it became strictly necessary to engage in some fantasy actions. For example;
Help infamous sea legend Davy Jones summon a Kraken (mythical beast), so as to better defend him from other ships?
Good idea to summon a tentacle monster? Men only just voted this a bad idea (50.2%) while a stronger majority of women were sure they wouldn’t help out here (55.6%). I think this might divide gamers too. Would you help with this?
An easier question was whether passengers would be willing to defend the ship in more traditional ways.
Support crew members as they load a cannon positioned by a porthole, ready to fire at enemy vessels?
70.5% of men and 61.0% of women where happy to step into the galley and help in with the gun powder and grapeshot.
Some of the questions saw a split response. We can only speculate why;
Help mount an effort to battle a giant sea witch in possession of a young mermaid princess’ voice?
Most men (56.9%) of men would take part in this. The women? Not so much but with only 53% opting out the difference between the two genders might not be so large as some would have predicted.
