Beating Retreat with Doctor Who

Beating Retreat is a military ceremony that dates back to the 16th century in England. The system was used to recall patrols to their castle and has had other names like Watch Setting.

The military forces in the Commonwealth still practise Beating Retreat, well some of them do, as it’s good practise and keeps the tourists happy.

The video above shows Horseguards Beating Retreat back in 2009. The video has started to go viral again. It’s no surprise the protectors of the Royal Family are Doctor Who savvy; the palace has had some interesting guests in the past!
