I must admit – I’m not quite sure what White Wolf is trying to say about Splinters of the Wyld. The tagline seems to be “Sometimes writers write too much”.
Here’s how the description of the Exalted supplement kicks off;
“The Compass of Terrestrial Directions, Vol. II—The Wyld offers many locations, people and creatures for Exalted games, but the writers produced quite a bit more than we expected. It seemed a shame just to throw the excess material away, though.”
When I read that it says to me White Wolf collected material for a book/PDF called “The Compass of Terrestrial Directions” and ended up with more material then they needed.
The suplement’s description then concludes with;
“Then, over time, other books ended up with little scraps and fragments of Wyld lore, and those seemed too cool to leave in the oblivion of a computer trash bin. Before we knew it, we had a lot of pieces with no home, so we decided to stitch them together into a crazy quilt of additional game pieces for your Exalted series.
The result is Splinters of the Wyld, additional glimpses of the madness waiting at Creation’s rim.”
So, my question is – is Splinters of the Wyld a collection of ‘extra bits’ that White Wolf want to sell to us? Or is the original book they had commissioned?
The other Compass of Terrestrial Directions are more expensive so perhaps this is the extra “cutting room floor” book?
Does it even matter? I still remain a fan of Exalted and its artwork! There; I said it.
