This campaign has funded. At the time this blog post goes live NGS has $3,830 or so and asked for $3,000. There are 19 days still to collect funds. A pledge of $2 gets you the Quick Start Guide straight away. The full colour PDF comes at $5 when it’s published. The pledge levels increase and paper copies become available but only for US backers.
I think there’s a joke in the video. This is a cooperative and collaborative RPG but watch how Vincent Venturella of Venture Land Games quickly shuts down the table of gamers whenever they have anything to say.
I like the overall promise of the game. I’m sure there are other cooperative RPGs, though, but since I’m outside the US it’s a moot point. I’d want a paper copy of NGS.
It’ll be interesting to see whether we’ll see a surge of narrative based games on Kickstarter following on from last year’s enthusiasm for OSR. That’s the thing with fashion – retro tends to be a cyclical encounter.
It’s worth looking at NGS’ highest tier. For just $150 the team will work with you to put a personal setting into the book. I think that happens at a much lower cash level than most games. I think it’s a bargin. If you want an initial author credit (or perhaps fame claim) then consider this. There are 15 slots available with only 6 left as this post goes live.
Stretch goals are also worth considering. The Samurai Steam setting has been unlocked and the setting “Deinos: Beyond the End of Man” looks like a sure thing and the adventure “Mystery at Tahoe” also seems likely.
