With just over $300 in the bank and 15 days left to raise the full $2,000 it looks like this campaign to do a video series version of The Geek Handbook is having to work hard for every dime. I’ve seen campaigns raise $2,000 in hours – so everything is possible.
I hadn’t heard of the book. The pitch video doesn’t really explain other than to suggest its a video series based on the book, in someway, and they need the cash. That might be why they’re struggling.
It’s worth checking out the full page of the cast and crew. These seem like a team of likeable geeks. Cosplayer and roleplayer Trisha Marquez notes, wisely, she’s never taken a picture of a controller in her mouth. I know the type of picture she means. Tom DeCuir, another D&Der, likes swords but not Edison, Jasmin Evans is a voice actress which suits her anime tastes and Ben Paddon already has experience in the YouTube front.
Meanwhile the Director and cinematographer, David and Zach Bloom, seem like a pair of young prospects worth backing.
The good news is that this Indiegogo campaign is on flexible funding. They’ll keep the cash raised and will hopefully spend it on equipment. The series may push ahead anyway.
