For many geeks, eHarmony is still the site that wouldn’t allow LGBT matchups and which is run by CEO and same-sex marriage opponent Neil Clark Warren. This weekend, however, eHarmony is attempting to woo geeks. They’re attempting to woo some geeks anyway, stirring rivalries and finding that Star Wars fans are more attractive than Trekkies.
Research from eHarmony.co.uk took some 5,000 user profiles of match seekers who listed either Star Wars or Star Trek as their favourite movie or TV show and studied the associated personality traits and preferences.
According to eHarmony, male Star Wars fans had more of a sense of humour than male Star Trek fans. The press release from the site also suggested that Star Trek fans were rather unadventurous compared to Star Wars fans who tended to be more bold and daring.
The site did find some good news for Trekkies, pointing out they had a more even gender balance – 31% of Trekkies were female, a 5% boost over 26% of Star Wars fans who were female.
eHarmony launched in the UK in 2008 and has gone on to acquire some 2.5 million users since then. It is unknown what percentage of those 2.5 million are active geeks.
It feels appropriate to sign out with a few Star Trek fans.
