The co-owner of game company Asparagus Jumpsuit is moving from New Mexico to University of Jyväskylä this September to purse a Master’s degree. As a result Asparagus Jumpsuit is raising money and running a big sale on their 22 Character Workbooks, 12 Monster Hide supplements, 3 Instant NPC collections and both Rules Hacks supplements for a limited time.
These Pathfinder resources would normally cost over $150 at DriveThru RPG but for the duration of the limited sale you can buy the bundle for less than $20.
The first point of caution about bundle products means you’ve a lot of download links to start clicking when you make the buy. The huge bundle, worth at least $130 in savings, comes in at 1,400 pages with 300 NPC stat blocks with 60 monster and rule variants.
It’s no surprise Pathfinder players are interested. The catch? The first – and currently only review – of the bundle slams it. The reviewer, a verified purchaser, wants their money back. Why? They say the monster variants are of no interest. The reviewer also felt that the Character Workbooks simply reprinted and rehashed text from elsewhere.
Here’s the full review;
For me the Character Workbooks were a complete waste of time and money. All they were is just a set of reminders for each class just repeating what is already listed for each class in the core book as well as the sources for each class (e. add HP, add feat at levels 3,6,9, etc., remember to add favored class bonus etc.). I had expected something like discussions of the merits of various class abilities, pros and cons of choosing various feats etc. They basically took the info from the various tables and put them in blocks of texts.
The Monster books were just minor variants from the author’s home campaign. I don’t care what they are like in your home campaign. I already have hundreds of monsters so I would not spend a cent for variants.For me the items of this collection are worthless.
Every reviewer is right, of course, even when they disagree with each other. Every reviewer is right because all they’re doing is sharing their opinion. In this case R.A.S. isn’t afraid to hand out one star reviews; it’s happened before, it’ll happen again. It may also be the case that another Pathfinder player will find the re-skinned monsters a huge help and will find the character workbooks just the ideal supplement to hand to their players.
Bundle deals are often great value for money, like this one, but it’s not always clear whether each book in the collection will suit your needs.
