Urban Shadows looks interesting. This is a Kickstarter, but it’s already funded, and it only took a few days. In fact, Andrew Medeiros’ game currently sits at x3 the target price, so this looks like a hot one.
Urban Shadows certainly tempts me, and I like the style of the pitch. I can’t stop thinking about the proposed Corruption mechanic isn’t all that new at all. We see similarities in the One Ring RPG and, of course, Vampire in the World of Darkness. Surely Medeiros is aware of the latter even if his Corruption works slightly differently.
The author notes that he’s not played a lot of World of Darkness but that the set of games’ mood and aesthetic has been something of an influence. The main influences cited Buffy, Supernatural, Moonlight, The Dresden Files and The Iron Druid Chronicles.
The pledge and reward tiers are straight forward. The first payout pledge is $10 and that’ll get you a PDF of the game and all digital stretch goals. THe next level up is $25 and that unlocks a softcover, with PDF and all digital stretch goals. Shipping out of the US adds an extra $10.
Urban Shadows uses Apocalypse as a system. This is the system Dungeon World uses.
