Wizards of the Coast has issued a press release to announce that they’ve signed R.A.Salvatore on a new six-book deal. No one will be surprised to discover that Drizzt Do’Urden from the D&D Forgotten Realms setting will be in each of the six books.
R.A. Slavatore said in the press release;
“I’ve always maintained that I would keep writing Drizzt as long as it was fun and as long as people wanted to read it. Now I understand that this journey with Drizzt is more than just ‘fun’ for me
“Writing Drizzt is an exercise of constantly reminding myself to find new trails and adventures in my own life; the character remains fresh to me because there’s always a new turn, sometimes painful, often joyous, always alive.”
D&D’s brand director (they have a brand director, cwor!) also contributed to the press release. Liz Schuh said;
“Together, we will bring six more thrilling Dungeons & Dragons stories featuring Drizzt Do’Urden to our loyal fan base.”
The question is whether “feature Drizzt” means “will follow Drizzt” or not. Who knows? Salvatore may not yet have decided. The first book is due out in 2011 and there will be one more a year after that. There’s still time to re-write things.
