This video for Jibo is impressive. Will it actually be this good? This could well be the first ever “family robot”. You have the chance to support it. You could say you have the chance to sow the seeds of the robot revolution. No downside to that, right?

There are 30 days left on the IndieGoGo fund raiser and they’re already 355% funded. That said only 90 of the 500 available $499 “Home Edition: 2015 ship” perks have been claimed. Sound expensive? The smallest perk is a thank you at $7.
The setup instructions are already published; connect JIBO to your wifi, teach JIBO to recognise your face and voice and then you learn what he can do. There’s also an Android and iOS app so you can connect via your mobile.
The woman at the end of the video pitch is Dr Cynthia Breazeal. She’s a MIT Professor and founder of JIBO Inc. No wonder she’s considered to be a pioneer of social robotics. Just look at the JIBO design with those carefully reassuring curves. No spiky death bots here.
