The London financial news are carrying the news that Games Workshop’s executive chairman – Tom Kirby to you and I – is moving to the States. It looks like he’ll be there for up to two years.
Tom Kirby, previously a tax inspector (I kid you not) has been all over Games Workshop. He started as a general manager, then led the great management buyout of 1991 to become CEO. There was a while when he was non-executive chairman (which I think is a role when you’re important but get to play Warhammer 40K a lot) before stepping back in as CEO and then executive chairman (less time for Warhammer 40K) again.
So, why is he moving to the States?
That’s the question which makes this news.
Games Workshop have turned the ship around. They’re making money. We’re about to see boxed copies of the Blood Bowl computer game on the shelves. Lots of big names are envious of World of Warcraft and wish they had a license with a large and pre-installed fan base.
Are Games Workshop courting a buyer? Heck! Could Games Workshop even be looking at buying a US company?
