Some two-thousand players turned the streets of Collado Villaba, a Spanish town near Madrid, into a zombie LARP. Players had to carry passports, an identifying handkerchief and fake cash to bribe other players. Meanwhile some 150 staff helped run the event and use make-up and professional actors to kick off the zombie infection.
All you had to do was avoid being touched and infected.
The LARP ran from 11pm to 7.30am. That’s a battle of stamina for most of us! Easy to imagine some players fell foul of zombies due to tiredness.
The game was invented by Diego de La Concepción who has progressed from a paintball range up to running this large scale roleplaying game. He told local press that the game helps the economy.
The town hall pays a minimum that’s multiplied by a factor of fifteen in terms of the impact on bars and restaurants. Everything is sourced in local businesses, from t-shirts to theatre groups.
More information is available at Survival Zombie.es and there’s already another “outbreak” planned for Valencia this September.
