Geek Native’s little slice of research on sci-fi movies is not very scientific. It will not stand up to any real scrutiny but you may find it interesting anyway.
Do you agree with the research? Do you suspect that sci-fi book fans will tend to be more critical of movies than everyone else?
Here’s what we did; Geek Native ran a competition to give away some copies of Jack Campbell’s Imperfect Sword. This is a sci-fi military novel, part of a much larger series. To enter the giveaway you had to say whether you’re a sci-fi book fan or not and whether you thought sci-fi movies tended to be poor or tended to be good.
The competition collected a little under 100 entries and here’s how the stats look.
We can only assume the 12% of entries from readers who aren’t sci-fi fans came from generous souls looking to win the book as a present for someone else.
As it turns out 88% of those readers who don’t like sci-fi books think sci-fi movies tend to be pretty good. However, only 71% of sci-fi readers thought movies from the genre tended to work out well.
