WITCH is a new RPG coming from Liz Chaipraditkul and Floor Coert at Angry Hamster Publishing. There’s a Kickstarter for WITCH RPG expected in March. I’m looking forward to it.
We’ve been granted a sneak peek into the mind of a Djinn in WITCH as they wrestle with their need to grand wishes. The Djinn are a type of Fate in the game and you’ll find this extract next to their description in the book.
The Djinn are Fated who gave their soul to a gaping nothingness that inhabits the planes called the Quiet. The Quiet is not malicious like the demons that others of the Fated deal with but the Djinn struggle with their ability to grant wishes. One wish might be helpful… but by the third wish the wisher’s soul is completely given over to the Quiet.

I feel the speaker thrumming behind me. It sends vibrations down my spine reverberating through my entire body. My ears are ringing, they hurt and I won’t be able to hear tomorrow, but I won’t move. Standing here brings me closer to nothing, it envelopes me and turns me, spreads my thoughts to something larger than myself. It reminds me of when I was first Fated. When I slipped away from this world and there was absolute silence in a horrid cacophony of sound and fury. When I came back, I remembered the beauty of it all, and I have been searching for that feeling ever since. I need to feel that way again. All around me there are people with hopes, dreams, and wishes.
This is why I hate crowds. I feel a man swaying to the music next to me, his rhythmic movements bump his body into mine with the beat of the music. I wonder what he wants, what he wishes, if I could make him talk.
I feel a pang of hunger in my stomach, the kind that food cannot fill. My body reacts to his and my hands begin to shake. I want to crawl inside his mind, pick it apart, live within his thoughts pulling out the juiciest morsel, and offering it to the great unknown. I am a junkie who needs a fix. I feel the voices through the Quiet calling to me, asking me to talk to him, find out what he wants, broker a deal… broker a deal!
Hands wrap around my face. Livvy has grabbed me, I feel her sweaty palms against my cheeks and she comes in close giving me a rough kiss. Her large brown eyes stare into mine, she knows what I am going through, except Livvy loves crowds because it makes her forget what she dreams about every night. I see the rest of my coven bouncing to the music behind her, Rashard gives me a thumbs up and a questioning look. I motion back to him and he smiles turning back to the stage.
It is all going to be okay. I place my back against the speaker again. Focus, clear your mind, you don’t need to grant a wish tonight.
Nothing, you feel nothing.
